Walking & wildlife

With walks to explore straight from the door, you can simply step ‘in’ the park and its fabulous scenery.
We’re close to some fantastic routes as well.

Bamford and Ladybower Reservoir is a 4.6 mile circular walk past Bamford Mill along the Thornhill Trail to the dam across Ladybower Reservoir.

Howden Reservoir has a relaxing 5 mile walk, with stunning views of the Peak District in the distance. You should see plenty of birds and wildlife here too.

Derwent Valley offers a moderate 4.6 mile walk where you can take in many Peak District habitats. It goes alongside Ladybower Reservoir through farmland and up wooded cloughs before emerging high on the moors with spectacular views of Derwent Valley and the High Peak area.

The Roaches, at the gateway to Staffordshire’s Peak District has stunning views and is a fantastic place to explore. A Staffordshire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve, the area is protected nationally and internationally for its wildlife and rare habitats.

Dovedale with the famous ‘stepping stones’ is 10 minutes by car. It’s just 640m from the car park to the stepping stones themselves.

Ilam Park, a wonderful place to reconnect with nature, take a stroll and listen to the birdsong around you. Look out for dippers diving across the rive, buzzards soaring in the sky and yellow wagtails too.
